Witton started the stronger of the two sides with two corners in the first few minuets, Middlewich were put under a lot of pressure but some good defending, particularly by Dave Shore, made sure that Witton are kept at bay, it has to be said that Witton were far more the dominant side in the early stages, But an increase in volume from the bench meant that Middlewich started to push back with some good play, one example was Stu Tullock breaking down the right using his pace to get past Wittons defence and trying to threaten their goal, unfortunately Wittons defence where having non of it.…

Fortunately for Middlewich, although Witton were having most of the game early on, they were unable to capitalise on their chances.
Middlewich then came back with a couple of corners, with the ball going just over the bar from a goal mouth tussle, then Witton came back at Middlewich with a good counter attack but still came away with nothing.
Of all the attempts at goal in the first half, Middlewich came closer to scoring.
Then just before half time it started to rain lightly making the pitch slightly greasy, and there was a scare for Middlewich as Shaky had to come to the side line for treatment after taking a knock on the shoulder, thankfully he was able to carry on.

Middlewich started the second half much brighter still, however an attacking free kick coming to nothing, and then an excellent run and cross from Mike on the left being defended well by Witton.

1st change of the game for Middlewich came early into this half with a frustrated looking Stu Tullock coming off and being replaced by Steve Warburton.
Witton also were making changes in a bid to rotate and try to change the game, and they had the disadvantage of having a low evening sun in their eyes for the second half, but it didn't affect them too much as they were breaking Middlewich's defence with some good runs.
Middlewich still had some good breaks though, with one attack ending with a well defended half Volley by Mike, and another shot from Gary Bryning being well saved by the goalie.

More changes as Johnny Edwards and Joey Roberts came off for Deano and debutante Craig Fleury, Craig having his first run-out for the 1st team since transfering to the club.

And the game went on, with well defended attack after well defended attack for both sides, and both sides getting increasingly desperate to score, it was to be one of those games where just one goal could win it for either side,
Unfortunately chances and freekicks, although happening thick and fast, neither side could finish.…
As the game was coming to an end Witton had a shot stopped by Kevin Whitehad and Middlewich had a shot from Whitters go just wide.
And that seemed to be the story of the whole game.
Afterwards The Witches Manager Terry Murphy said he was pleased with the performance of his team against opponents that play 3 leagues above them in the Unibond Premier Division.
Terry now feels his charges are ready for the season ahead and defending the Cheshire League title.
