Tuesday night, a trip to Warrington to meet with Rylands. the first half was a catalogue of missed chances and a missed penalty. Middlewich had the better of the game against an argumentative Rylands side that couldn't get on with itself. after 25mins on an attack Rylands were awarded a penalty for a foul in the Area, but Matt Conkie was there to prove his worth with an excellent save. 5 min's later they where hitting the Middlewich woodwork whilst at the other end the Middlewich forwards were powering the ball wide or over the home sides net. not really troubling the home keeper.
The halftime talk was taken on the field of play, a setting sun and reducing light meant that Terry didn't have much time before the start of the second half, it looked as though the players were grateful for that as well.
The talk seemed to work, Stu Tulloch, a first half Sub for an injured Mike Brandon was starting to show some of the form that has deserted him of late, was brought down in the area and awarded a penalty, Gary Bryning stepped up, and with the memory of the saved spot kick the previous weekend was determined to make amends. 1-0 to the witches.
it was only to last 2 minutes though as Rylands caught the Middlewich back 4 sleeping and let them walk through to grab an equaliser.
All of a sudden Middlewich woke up and started to really push hard Stu Tulloch creating chances for Dean Clark and Johnny Edwards. the advantage was re-gained when a good run down the right channel by Steve Warburton and a strong pass into the area and was parried one handed away only to be met by Stu to slot home at the near post.
it wasn't all action in the Rylands goal mouth as Middlewich were forced to work hard in defence the ball being saved off the line and then at one point being rebounded off a Middlewich defender and just clearing the crossbar.
Middlewich weren't finished yet, some good passing to get the ball forward saw the ball fall loose to Johnny and his clever chip into the net made it 3-1.. but just a min later Johnny was the victim of a nasty foul that saw Rylands down to 10 men and giving Middlewich the luxury to play more freely to play the game out and take yet another valuable 3 points.
