After not playing the previous week due to bad weather everybody probably wished that the same fate had befell this fixture. After the good recent performances this was arguably one of the poorest displays. Vale are a good team but having competed well against Egerton & Macc Boys expectations were high. The pitch and the conditions were poor but it was the same for both teams. From the first whistle Middlewich were on the back foot with players looking unsure and overwhelmed. Vale siezed on this and attacked the Middlewich goal at will. Shots were flying in from everywhere and always ending up in the net. With no real positives to take from either game it will just have to be put down as one of those days. Perhaps minds were elsewhere. Lessons to be learned are sometimes harsh and now the players have to take on the chin what happened and strive to regain their form in the new year !
Would moving kids' football to a summer game help improve the development of young footballers?
Yes - better pitches mean a better chance to develop technique/skills
No - wouldn't make any real difference to development
Maybe - but I'd be worried about more injuries on firm pitches
